Welcome to Evers eNews, a monthly bulletin designed to add value for you and your law department.
The phrase “add value” smacks of sales-speak and business school class. But I embrace it. Recruiting is an episodic enterprise, so we try our best here to help clients in the months or even years that pass between search assignments. We hope that small things, such as complimentary benchmarking and invitations to special events, make a difference. This is why the signature line in our email reads, “How can we help your law department?” I continuously challenge our firm internally with that question.
But I ask you to think about it, too. Evers eNews will evolve as we receive feedback from you. We encourage your comments online, and we also welcome the archaic communication format known as a phone call. I’m at 312.225.1144.
The highlight of Evers eNews is a monthly profile of one of your in-house peers. We begin with Rich Konrath, General Counsel North America for CNH Industrial. I am delighted that Rich took our phone call in 2009 and chose to relocate his family to Racine, Wis., after a very successful tenure with Caterpillar Inc. that included living abroad. Rich’s worldview of business and compliance was on display at the 2013 InsideCounsel Superconference, a national event at which best practices are shared among in-house counsel. At Superconference, Rich was kind enough to give back to the in-house community as an expert speaker.
Cate Flahardy writes the profiles and edits our content. As the former Editor-in-Chief of InsideCounsel, she brings unparalleled credibility and expertise to this endeavor. We are going first class all the way, as they say. Welcome aboard, Cate.
My colleague of many years, Meredith Haydon, contributes to our eNews as well. At our firm, Meredith focuses on recruiting high caliber lawyers to fill legal department positions, and she will offer monthly tips that attorneys can put into practice when they are seeking a new position. Thank you, Meredith, for identifying so many wonderful candidates, such as Rich Konrath for us over the years. I appreciate you.
As you may know, I proudly author the online career advice column for InsideCounsel. The IC column features insights directly from leading general counsel throughout the country. Our eNews here is more of a first person endeavor, where you will get our views on hiring trends and best practices for assuring culture fit. I envision a truly robust market in 2014 as significant growth in corporate revenue and profits leads to new headcount for the first time in years. Consider that a teaser, and please look for next month’s issue when I back up that prediction.
Our singular goal is to add value for your law department. Please let me know how we’re doing along the way by adding comments to our posts or sending me a personal email, and thank you for joining us on the ride by accepting Evers eNews into your inbox.
