Let me reintroduce myself. I am a recruiter who places talent exclusively with in-house legal departments, and I have placed more than 300 lawyers into roles that are primarily leadership adjacent (division GC, deputy GC, assistant GC, senior counsel) or subject matter specific. The base salaries of our placements in 2024 show exactly where the marketplace tells us we fit: $215,000 to $310,000. I have placed at lower and higher salaries, including a few general counsel placements.
I am proud of our testimonials, but I don’t have a perfect track record. I don’t send out gifts or holiday cards (I should fix that!), and I don’t pay to sponsor conferences (pay-to-play has weakened good conferences). I love the work itself. My passion for diving into a new search has never wavered, thankfully. I am more candid than ever with clients and better than ever at getting culture fit right.
I turned 60 this year. I live a ridiculously healthy life, and I am in my prime in terms of the expertise and experience a company should want if in need of a legal recruiter.
But I never take the next year of Evers Legal workflow for granted. Competition is more fierce than ever, and by that I do not mean other search firms. Your internal HR team is our biggest competitor. Our bread and butter searches, described above, are increasingly handled internally. Sometimes quite capably, sometimes not.
I have written about this challenge here before, and there is no solution from my standpoint. There are positions for which your company will authorize a search fee and positions for which it will not. I cannot fight that bottom line.
What I can do, and what I want to do more of in 2025 than ever before, is make sure you and your HR team believe in me when those opportunities to work together do arise.
So book me. Whether or not we have met before, book me for a meeting at your office, or over lunch/coffee. Include your HR counterpart if that makes sense for all of us. No strings attached. I’ll fly anywhere in the United States at my cost to do this. I enjoy it! My only agenda is to know more about you and your law department and to remain relevant when you need to hire.
